September 23, 2025
The Fifth Jesuit Chennai Province Assembly was held on April 6, 2025, at Loyola College, Chennai, during its Centenary Year. The day began with a Holy Eucharist led by Fr. Jebamalai Irudayaraj, Provincial. The theme of the Assembly was “Reporting and Deliberating on the Reimagining and Restructuring of Life and Mission”. Fr. Joe Arun, Convener of the Province Task Force, presented the comprehensive 652-page RR Report, summarizing contributions from 16 Communities (Life) and 12 Commissions (Mission). Small group spiritual conversations guided the discernment process, and top areas of concern were shared in the plenary. Fr. Joe Arun summarized the learnings and outlined the way forward, receiving strong approval from the forum.
In his closing remarks, Fr. Provincial expressed gratitude to key contributors, acknowledged the outgoing Socius Fr. Ilanko Xavier, and welcomed Fr. Britto Vincent. He highlighted the year’s milestones—Fr. General’s visit, the JCSA meeting, the Centenary of Loyola College, and the Province Pilgrimage—and outlined the timeline for selecting the new Provincial. The day ended with a joyful supper and hearts renewed in mission.
